Bob DeVos
DeVos'
Groove Guitar !

A
brilliant and versatile jazz guitarist with a sound to-die-for,
Blues Leaf recording artist BOB DEVOS
knows how to complement the Hammond B-3.
Bob DeVos has recorded alongside such organ masters
as Charles "The Mighty Burner" Earland, Richard "Groove" Holmes,
and Jimmy McGriff. He's worked with saxophonists Sonny Stitt, Stanley
Turrentine, David "Fathead" Newman, and Houston Person as well as
singers Etta Jones and Irene Reid. Bob DeVos appears on a previous
CD for Blues Leaf, Gene Ludwig's Groove ORGANization.
Bob's organ player, Blues Leaf recording artist Gene
Ludwig, is one of the finest organ players alive. In 1957
this Pittsburgh native and then-pianist, inspired by organ pioneer
Jimmy Smith, decided to take up the Hammond B-3. Gene has worked
with jazz giants, building a solid reputation as a "musician's musician."
Bob's drummer, Billy James, spent the
1960s performing in various combo settings with the great organist
Don Patterson. Billy James arrived on the jazz scene in the mid-50's
with Lionel Hampton, and has been the "drummer of choice" for some
of the toughest tenors in the business: Booker Ervin, James Moody,
Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Eddie Harris,
and Houston Person. Emedin on conga's
and percussions, has for the last 30 years played and recorded with
such greats as Chuck Mangione, Bob James, Paqito DeRivera, David
Valentine, Noel Pointer and Gato Barbieri. Emedin also lends his
talents to this recording. Bob DeVos is a dynamic jazzman, delivering
first-rate guitar and organ driven energy on "DeVos Groove Guitar".
