Detroit, Michigan produced some of R&B and blues' greatest proponents:
John Lee Hooker (by way of the Mississippi Delta), Aretha Franklin,
Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams, Jackie Wilson, Maurice King & the Wolverines,
Della Reese and more recently singer Janiva Magness. A woman able
to belt it out alongside the best of 'em. Dubbed early on in her
career by Living Blues Magazine "An up and coming blues-shouter.
Watch Out!!!" She connects with genuine passion, evoking diverse
influences ranging from Etta James to Memphis Minnie to Julia Lee
and Lady Day. In 1999 she was selected as a calender girl for the
Commemorative Millenium Collectors Edition of the Tucson Blues Society
2000 calender. Some career highlights include headliner billing
on the great Peer/Belgium Rhythm & Blues Festival 98, Lucerne International
Blues Festival 99 as well as sharing the stage with Bo Diddly, Otis
Rush, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Lowell Fulson, Floyd Dixon, Johnny Copeland,
John Hammond Jr., Charles Brown, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Junior
Watson, Rory Block , Taj Mahal, Pinetop Perkins, Billy Branch and
Johnny Dyer. She has lent her talents as vocalist for projects on
Evidence Records, Blues Leaf Records, American Records, Zoo/BMG
Music, Sky Ranch Records, Black Magic/Black Top Records, Fat Head
Records, including her work with Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer
